Cosmogony

First presented at Pioneer Works in March, 2016.

In the beginning was the rift: matter and mind, spirit and flesh, subject and object. Cosmogony was a cycle of site-specific, immersive performances, employed ritual, sound, scent, projection, movement, and storytelling: a multi-sensory journey through the shifting terrain where form and perception give way to the primal source of experience. It was the reimagining of a timeless form: a contemporary mythos of creation, destruction and awakening, drawing on ancient visions while unfolding against a backdrop of digital acceleration, oncoming environmental collapse, and the revelations of quantum physics.

Reviving the pre-modern tradition of sacred performance to commemorate important astrological days of the lunar and solar calendar, Cosmogony will kickoff this month with a series of participatory events surrounding the Spring Equinox at Pioneer Works, H.O.M.E., and De-construkt Projects, culminating in a celebration of the trickster with lectures and installations at the C.G. Jung Center.

Cosmogony was created by Samadhi Arts, a platform for ritual-based art and performance, connecting visionary contemporary artists and traditional lineages. It produces workshops, immersive events, exhibitions and conferences fostering critical inquiry into the role of esoteric practice in society.
